The contenders for the award were:

  • Beautiful magazine
  • Gok’s Teens: The Naked Truth
  • The Guardian Weekend Magazine’s Fashion For All Ages
  • Caitlin Moran’s best selling book, How To Be A Woman

For a new publication, Beautiful sure is doing well and I’m so proud! We didn’t win (the winner was Caitlin Moran) but I’m so thrilled and honoured to have been shortlisted that I don’t care about winning. It’s amazing to have the hard work put into producing the magazine recognised at such a high and public level.

I am a very happy woman indeed!

This is something I’ve thought of as almost impossible — when you consider the number of books out there — so I was astonished about it and still am a bit. I bought a book a few years ago that was supposed to show me how to get in the top 10 but the work involved seemed too time consuming, with organising events and selling your book to crowds and public speaking and raising your profile. I’d much rather spend my time actually writing or teaching or creating Beautiful magazine.

Amazon bestsellerIn the end all I had to do was write a book and put it on Amazon and it went to No 1 all by itself. I love that. I’m now writing my second book. When I can. I hope to have it finished by September. I feel confident I’ll be able to make No 1 again because Book 2 is even better than Book 1!

I love writing books. Kindle is great but I’m old fashioned and I love an actual book that you can hold in your hands and turn the pages. My paperback version of Eat Less is my favourite and it still thrills me to see it. As a child I imagined myself as an author, but never quite believed it. Now I am and I have my book on my shelf with my other books. It feels weird and I have to pinch myself!
